Dad’s Tears, Grad’s Cheers | San Diego Photography

June is the official “dad and grad” month, it’s true.  But some dads get the “double whammy” when they also have a teen who is graduating, and leaving home.  For these dads, it can be an emotional time.  We know that moms always need the tissues when they see their “little babies” growing into strong, capable adults, but we’re always surprised and touched to see that dads are often just as moved.  We always get a kick out of watching new dads, and even ‘experienced’ dads, that will actually mist up (or, spontaneously “get something in their eye”) when we show them portraits of their new baby, young child, or high school senior!  It may be the twinkle in the eye, the pensive look, or seeing their child look a little too grown up, that causes a hitch in the voice, as they catch a glimpse of the future.  So – as June comes to a close, let’s cheer on the grads, and then be sure to send a little love your dad’s way!

“I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father’s protection.”
~ Sigmond Freud

If you have a grad who’s about to leave home, now’s the perfect time to update the family portraits, and give dad a great, updated portrait for his desk!

Home for the Holidays | San Diego Family Photographer

When the kids come home for the holidays, it’s the perfect time to update that family portrait.  The relationships are just as important, and it’s always great to document throughout the years.  Brother and sister have a playing, razzing nature, and we were able to capture that, which was fun. :-)

Shiny Happy People | San Diego Family Photographer

It was great to work with a fellow photographer who is just the sweetest person, with a wonderful family to match!  They are so warm and friendly, and that really comes across in their portraits. This first one was my absolute favorite from the session that Nikkie captured, and the image on the front of their holiday card.  Well chosen!

Just Another Day at the Beach| San Diego Beach Photography

This family was just soo sweet.  Even with 4 young boys, the parents were patient and kind, and we had a great time!  They were here for their annual vacation – coming to us all the way from Nevada!  All the boys enjoyed looking in and around the rocks finding LOTS of crabs – and while we were working on the portraits, we were graced by several dolphins frolicking nearby in the water.  I ask you – how’s that for a day’s work?

Legacy of Love

DSC_9163blogjpg

This is a great story of a legacy of love!  Grandma-to-be is just so incredibly excited about the upcoming birth of her grandchild that she decided to spoil baby, mommy, and daddy by investing in our Chrysalis Collection.  This collection focuses on telling that special story of each new belly to baby. Mom and Dad were absolutely awesome to work with and let’s face it mom’s belly is just so beautiful and tiny!  Mom disagreed with the “tiny” part so of course we had to tell her to invest in glasses and a good mirror because…just look at her…she’s only sporting a basket ball when I was sporting an over-sized watermelon when I was in my eighth month!

Anyway…here are a few sneak peaks for grandma, mom and dad of a few of the “less revealing” images from the day.  We’ll see you soon so you can check out the rest of the images from the session!  Let us know what you think by leaving comments bellow!

Not Just for Mother’s Day!

Portraits make great gifts at any stage in life.  We had the pleasure of working with Serena, who recently graduated from nursing school.  She insists she’s not photogenic!  What???  Of course, her mother loved the images, and chose an enlargement for her home.  Then she had Serena’s sister, Danielle come in (to preserve the balance of the wall portraits, of course).  Danielle ALSO doesn’t think she belongs in front of the camera, but the camera loves her, too!  And then Danielle’s honey needed a copy for his desk.  So – when thinking about child or family portraits, remember – any time, any age, portraits are a cherished gift for your loved ones!
