Halloween Happenings!

So – the spookiest night of the year is nearly upon us.  This weekend, will be full of last-minute costume shopping and assembly, and pumpkin carving.  But when you’re not answer the door for the trick-or-treaters, here are some fun family things we’ve found for you to do on Halloween with your little ones:

These shadow puppets, from Chez Beeper Bebe, are super fun, and the website has free downloadables!

And how adorable are these popsicle scarecrows for your preschoolers from Little Family Fun?!?

And when everyone’s home, why not play a fun game of Jack-o’Latern Bag Toss, as shown on Parents.com?

Here’s another cute craft for the little ones, from Kinderart:

And, of course, you have to have a spooky treat when the day is done.  Here are some ghostly rice krispy treats, from The Idea Room.

For more great idea, check out our Halloween DIY and Family Fun Time boards on Pinterest. :)

Happy Halloween to you and yours!

Pretty as a Picture – Fall Home Decor

Fall is my absolute favorite season.  Living in San Diego, it’s a brief season.  And it’s long-overdue this year.  We had a taste of fall for a couple days last week, and hopefully after this coming weekend’s cool-down, fall will be here to stay.  With the long hot summer, I’m behind in decorating for fall, as it has been too darn hot.  However, I’ve been inspired by so many creative ideas on Pinterest, that I just wanted to share some beautiful fall decor for your home this season!

Shanty-2-Chic has a fabulous article with step-by-step instructions to turn ordinary pumpkins into extraordinary decorations for your mantle, tabletop or other display areas:

And how perfectly simple and elegant is this idea from My Hearts Desire?  Fill glass jars with autumn-colored beans and/or grains, and add a candle!

And nothing says fall, like the fall harvest of wheat.  I love how it is simply, and elegantly displayed here (from Castles and Carriages).

And, of course, you can’t be without a stylish way to greet your house guests this season.  This is a lovely wreath to adorn your door.  Love the texture of the “moss” and burlap bow from The High Heeled Hostess.

Give MOM the BEST and what she wants MOST this Mother’s Day!

Mommy's Little AngelsMommy & MeMommy's a Diva

He asked the big question, and you said YES!

But who should you ask to join you on your big day? Here are some things to consider before you choose your bridesmaids:

san diego beach wedding

Numbers
Most wedding planners recommend a bridesmaid for every 50 guests in attendance. If you have a small wedding, it might look odd to have four or five bridesmaids next to you. On the other hand, for a big wedding, it might look less formal to only have one maid of honor. Either way, it’s always nice to have a matching number of bridesmaids and groomsmen, so take your fiancé’s expectations into consideration as well.

Etiquette
Once you have a number in mind, be sure you don’t ruffle any feathers. If you have sisters, they should always be included, even if you don’t get along that well. It’s perfectly okay to have your best friend as your maid of honor, but it’s rude to leave family members out of the bridal party.

Reliability
You probably have lots of dear friends that you would love to share your big day with, but keep in mind that you will rely on them for many things—least of all looking polished for pictures and the ceremony, and most of all—moral support. If you have friends that are chronically late, will insist on casual footwear or tend to get excessively tipsy, think twice about including them in your day. (You will regret it.)

The Proposal
You have chosen your special friends who will stand next to you on your big day, but it’s still appropriate to ask them to honor you in this way. After all, it is a big commitment of time and money for them, so a more formal request goes a long way. Consider inviting them all to a special night out, or giving them a personal gift like this one.

Something Turquoise.com – They’ll be sure to say yes!

Gifts
While it’s common for bridesmaids to buy their own dresses, it’s a thoughtful gesture to buy their jewelry for the wedding day. You can choose something that coordinates with the dresses, which will also make a great gift for them to remember the occasion.

Use a personalization option to use gemstones that coordinate with your wedding color.

Other Friends
If you couldn’t include everyone you wanted to, don’t forget that there are other ways for them to be involved in your big day. They could do a reading during the ceremony, perform a musical number during the reception, hand out programs, and of course still take part in the bridal shower and bachelorette party.

BlueFlair’s Favorite Date Ideas—Perfect for Valentine’s (or any) Day

BlueFlair’s Favorite Date Ideas—Perfect for Valentine’s (or any) Day

  • Ice Skating

Find an outdoor skating rink and rent some skates. Bundle up and grab a thermos of hot cocoa (with maybe a touch of peppermint schnapps), some mugs and a camera to document your winter wonderland memories.

  • Stargazing

Find a tranquil outdoor setting and bring an air mattress, hammock or some reclining chairs. For an unforgettable time, mark your calendar for the next big meteor shower and get ready to make some wishes! Bring a nice bottle of wine and ask 20 questions while you gaze. Make your own constellation.

  • Take a ski day

Hit the slopes with your love, and be sure to spend some time by a nice roaring fire at the end of the day. Make s’mores and then hit the hot tub together.

  • Scavenger Hunt

Whether it’s throughout your house or throughout the whole city, make a scavenger hunt for your love and help them follow the clues to a picnic or dinner at a nice restaurant.

  • Row, Row, Row your Boat

Rent a row boat and take a few leisurely spins around a lake. Timeless romance. Sigh…

  • Go to a Game

Get tickets to a home game and tailgate together. Wear team jerseys and be super fans together.

  • Play Strip Poker

And let them win a few games!

  • Get Fresh

Go to an orchard or berry farm and pick some fresh fruit to enjoy together. Bring a nice bottle of champagne (of course) to reward yourselves for your efforts. Find a nice spot to plant a tree together. Go back and carve your names in it on an anniversary or special occasion down the road.

  • Be Adventurous

Go bungee jumping, skydiving, rock climbing, anything out of your comfort zone. You’ll get a great adrenaline rush and wonderful memories with your loved one.

  • Dance the Night Away

Take a dance class and then go to a nice dinner afterwards.

  • Volunteer Together

Find a common interest and donate some time together. Visit a nursing home for a monthly bingo night, help out at a food bank, visit children in the hospital or clean up a trail or park.

Hope this list helps your imagination run wild. Get out there and spend some quality time with the one you love!

Haute! By Blueflair Presents: The Sexy Seven

The Sexy Seven: What to wear to look and feel Haute

1.  The right pair of shoes. Nothing says sexy like thigh high boots or a pair of 4 inch stilettos.

2. Jewelry. Long pearls are a favorite among Blueflair Haute-ies. The right pieces can enhance your sex appeal and make you feel like  a million bucks.

3. Corsets vs. bras. Both come in a variety of colors. Both look absolutely sinful with nothing but a pair of panties.

4. Fantasy outfits. Sailor, nurse, police officer… the ideas are endless but the trick to taking it from costumes to fine art is keeping it simple and sexy. Fantasies are all about imagination and leaving as much to his as possible.

5. One word: Fishnets.

6. Nothing says “come hither” like wearing nothing but his dress shirt or tie. Tousled hair and pouty lips never hurt either.

7. Less is more. Don’t under estimate the sex appeal of you. Strategically placed hands and shadows or  the crisp white line of a bed sheet are staples of fine art boudoir photography.

We want you to have fun and feel beautiful!  We provide a pre-consultation in order to optimize your session.  We also work with professional hair and makeup experts, to enhance your beauty, and compliment your wardrobe. For your convenience, professional makeup is included in all of our packages.  And we even include a champagne toast! *

BlueFlair Photography provides the utmost comfort and quality  for your boudoir experience.  You’ll feel at ease with 2 female photographers.  Nikkie and Stefanie work together with you, and will gently guide you with posing, outfits, accessories, and lighting to capture your most beautiful features.

*must be 21 or older to consume alcohol

Tell us what your favorite Boudoir look is and be automatically entered to win a complimentary $100 studio credit good toward any Haute! session.

A Long HAUTE Summer….

From the dictionary, “boudoir” is a French term from the late 1700s used for a woman’s
dressing room, bedroom or private sitting room derived from the verb “bouder”
meaning “to pout”.  Source: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/boudoir

Now, a great deal of “boudoir” is created in the photographer’s studio or in
luxury hotel suites, where it has become very fashionable to create a set of sensual
images for women in “boudoir style”. This often takes the shape of partially clothed
images or images in lingerie, and has become more than just a passing fad for brides
to surprise their future husbands. Although in the past there were many negative
connotations associated with boudoir photography, in recent years the trend has
quickly gained momentum, and the entire look of boudoir photography has begun to
evolved into highly fashionable, tasteful, sensual portraits!

Bridal boudoir photography is becoming particularly popular. Brides often have an
album of boudoir-style photographs made as a present for their soon-to-be husbands.
Boudoir photographs given as an anniversary gift is also a common theme.  Source:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boudoir

At BlueFlair, our boudoir clients have ranged in age from 21 through 62! Whether the
reason was for a suprise gift for their beloved, because they achieved their weight loss
goal, or just because they wanted to feel sexy and create a memory, those who have
chosen a boudoir session always have a great time, have an improved self-image afterward and even find themselves showing off their photos!

So what about the guys? Playfully called “DudeOir”, there is an increasing demand for
men to have something similar to female boudoir photography. Low-slung jeans, open
or no shirt, masculine poses… men are finding that tasteful “DudeOir” is a really
special treat FOR their sweetheart… or for social networking to FIND a sweetheart!

If you are considering a boudoir session, summer is the perfect time: Skin glows a bit
more, the natural lighting is gorgeous, and lasts longer, plus, you’ll have your album or prints in plenty of time for the holiday gift-giving!
