Beyond Business 2.0 | San Diego Photography for Men
We bring you another installment of Beyond Business – photography for men. So what is it that makes men reluctant to ham it up for the camera? Well, we hear from some of our guys that they just don’t like having their picture taken (trust us, that happens with plenty of women, too). Or they feel like they’re being too vain dressing nice and posing for the camera. Guess what, some women feel that way, too! Is it lack of fashion sense? Perhaps, but there are plenty of fashion-challenged women out there as well.
SO, you see, gentlemen, these are pretty typical worries. Which means it comes down to assessing how do you want to be seen? What’s your image saying now, whether it’s how you represent yourself to your friends, to potential employers, or to a love interest? As you see below, the image on the left is a typical shot, that’s “okay”, but not dynamic. It doesn’t reach out and connect with anyone. But the image on the right, is like BAM! He’s connected, friendly, engaging, and ready to say hello.
Take a moment to take stock of your profile, and ask yourself what message you’re sending out. If it’s not the message you want to deliver, take it to the next level with professional portraits.

Beyond Business | San Diego Photography for Men
So, we work with LOTS of women, kids, and babies, but the men are often the reluctant subject, typically dragged to the studio by their PR person (for business headshots), or by the wife for the annual family portraits, or anniversary photos. But guys really do need good photos, too.
Most men are satisfied with a shot they capture from a cell phone, and that’s the image they use to represent themselves in business, and in personal realms, like social media and profile images. While the image on the left is ‘fine’ (he’s a good-looking guy to start with), it certainly doesn’t pack a punch like the image at top, and above to the right.

Business Branding | San Diego Headshot Photography
What is business branding? Well, it’s more than your typical headshots. It incorporates your job into the overall look of the image, furthering your message to your potential clients. Miss “L” is a commercial realtor. Rather than the standard realtor headshot on that awful blue background, we went on location to show Miss “L” at a commercial property, giving potential clients a preview of what it would be like to work with her as she shows them around. Miss “L” is confident, competent, and ready to match the business owner with a property that will meet their business needs.
Our business branding is typically a two-part photo session, as we typically shoot in-studio and then on location at your place of business.

2012 Del Mar Hat Day! | San Diego Photography
Well, the Del Mar Horse Racing season opened again – with lots of flair! Yes, it’s the annual Hat Day at the races! We had the opportunity to photograph some lovely ladies before they ran off to enjoy a beautiful day in the grandstands watching the beautiful horses . . . and plenty of dapper dudes.
What a fun day! Next year, make an event of it – champagne, nibbles, girl time, and a great day at the Del Mar Turf Club – “where the surf meet the turf.”

The Smile That Went on Forever | San Diego Senior Photography

One of the things we love about Balboa Park is how many backgrounds we can do for different looks. And we always encourage our seniors to bring a few outfit changes to mix it up even more! What we did this morning!
This morning we were present for the NBC 7/39 San Diego morning news – what an early wake up call. I don’t know how those newscasters and technical crew do that 5 days a week. Thankfully, this was a special occasion for us! This morning, they taped the cake segment for the upcoming NBC Throws a Wedding at the Prado, coming up in just a few more weeks. Don’t those cakes look spectacular! The 3 vendors competing are Sweetcheeks Baking Co., The French Gourmet, and Heavenly Cupcake. Here are a couple photos from this morning’s broadcast:
Everything’s Coming Up . . . Flowers! | San Diego Photography
Meet Allison Stevens, owner and designer from Magnolia Flower Shoppe in San Diego. We had an excellent “branding” session with Allison, where we incorporated her business (flowers) into her professional portraits for use on her website and social media sites. She brought a lot of outfits, and flowers, and was open to the creative process. For creative people like Alli, a standard headshot does not hold the same impact as a creative portrait that tells more of the story of who she is. We had a great time, and captured some wonderful images! Enjoy, Alli!
You can see from the twinkle in her eye that she LOVES to laugh and really enjoys life!
I just love this one – ultra soft and feminine. Allison had the idea of incorporating the “pillow” of flowers into her session. Brilliant!
Towards the end, we were chatting, and I suggested she do a “he loves me, he loves me not”. Allison laughed, and said she used to do that for hours as a little girl. Even then she was fascinated with flowers!

Here’s another one of our “Hautties”! Miss A was such a natural in front of the camera, and we had a great time photographing her. She brought several different outfits, so we were able to capture different sides of her – from playful, to smoldering, to sweet, to seductive. When planning your boudoir session, don’t forget shoes and jewelry – they can complete the look! With our boudoir sessions, we include hair and makeup – and it’s a good idea to change up the hair throughout the session for different looks.
