Dad’s Tears, Grad’s Cheers | San Diego Photography

June is the official “dad and grad” month, it’s true.  But some dads get the “double whammy” when they also have a teen who is graduating, and leaving home.  For these dads, it can be an emotional time.  We know that moms always need the tissues when they see their “little babies” growing into strong, capable adults, but we’re always surprised and touched to see that dads are often just as moved.  We always get a kick out of watching new dads, and even ‘experienced’ dads, that will actually mist up (or, spontaneously “get something in their eye”) when we show them portraits of their new baby, young child, or high school senior!  It may be the twinkle in the eye, the pensive look, or seeing their child look a little too grown up, that causes a hitch in the voice, as they catch a glimpse of the future.  So – as June comes to a close, let’s cheer on the grads, and then be sure to send a little love your dad’s way!

“I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father’s protection.”
~ Sigmond Freud

If you have a grad who’s about to leave home, now’s the perfect time to update the family portraits, and give dad a great, updated portrait for his desk!

Ohana Wellness | BlueFlair Preferred Family Vendor

We’ve enjoyed getting to know Rachel, the lovely lady behind Ohana Wellness, a business dedicated to helping parents build a harmonious relationship with their child – right from the start!  Rachel is an expert in her field, yet relaxed and easy to talk to.  If you have a newborn that has difficulty sleeping, or is fussy, Rachel can teach soothing techniques, infant massage, and other methods to help calm baby and parent!

Here’s a little more about Rachel and Ohana:

“Rachel Rainbolt, a mother of two with eleven years of experience working with young children and parents has a Master’s Degree in Family Therapy, is featured as a Parenting Expert on KUSI’s “Inside San Diego,” is a Freelance Published Author and Parent Educator of classes in Infant Massage, Baby Sign Language, and Babywearing. She works passionately to nurture the loving bond between parent and baby to foster happy, healthy families through her business, Ohana Wellness.

At Ohana Wellness our mission is to enhance the well-being of families, ohanas. We promote health, happiness and growth while fostering attachment between parent and baby. We offer classes in Infant Massage, Soothing Slumber, Troubled Tummies, Babywearing, and Baby Sign Language, an informative newsletter, a comprehensive resource list, and a complete line of helpful products. It is our honor to touch your lives, making the transition of birth a harmonious one, easing your job as a parent, and contributing to the formation of a beautiful bond that will last a lifetime.”

And here’s what one of her client’s has to say:

“I would highly recommend this class to new moms and dads. My husband and I really enjoyed the class and were disappointed when it ended. When my daughter got constipated after the classes ended I knew how to make her feel better and the same thing was true when she got a cold.  It’s nice and comforting to know how to make your child feel better.  Massage is not a part of our bedtime routine.  Since massaging in the evening, Reagan sleeps more soundly and longer too!  I’d suggest taking the class early so you can take advantage of the colic and calming routines.  An awesome experience!”
